Banana Bread
Mauna Kea Resort - Big Island, Hawaii
A recipe the whole family will love ...
Banana bread is an old-fashioned comfort food that everybody enjoys. This recipe is a favorite, because it's so easy it's practically "keiki-proof" -- and kids love to help in the kitchen.
The Hawaiian word for banana is mai'a, however the origianal Hawaiians didn't grow wheat, so of course they didn't have a word for bread. They did grow all different kinds of bananas, with specific uses for each kind. In fact, some species of banana were kapu (forbidden) for women to eat. In today's Hawaiian language, this recipe could be called palena mai'a (banana bread). We hope you enjoy it!
